We are proud to be an International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology (IAOMT) Certified Mercury Safe office.

While our office has never placed mercury fillings, the team at Fairlawn Dental Care have been certified to safely remove mercury fillings.

All dental amalgam restorations contain approximately 50% or more mercury. Research shows these fillings continue to emit mercury vapors while they are in the mouth.

When removed from teeth, the mercury released exposes both dental professionals & patients to mercury vapors & other mercury-containing particles. 

Therefore, we utilize the Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique (SMART) as set forth by the IAOMT to keep ourselves & you, the patient, as safe as possible from highly toxic mercury vapors & pieces that get generated from the removal of a “silver” filling.

Please note that while we have our own views on the safety of mercury, we will never recommend a mercury filling be replaced unless it has a diagnosable reason (decay, fractures, etc.).

We make no claims or suggestions that safely removing mercury fillings will have any changes to your overall health.

We remove mercury fillings following the SMART protocol to protect our staff & our patients from unnecessary mercury exposure.
